German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has launched two new cars in the Indian markets – the sporty Mercedes-Benz SL 350 and the GL 500 SUV marking the celebration of its 125th anniversary. Both will cost about Rs 98.5 lakh and Rs 80.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
The cars were launched in Delhi with Mercedes MD & CEO Peter Honegg there to help celebrate.
The GL 500 SUV is counted among the strongest and most powerful SUV’s in the world. It runs on a 5.4 litre V6 engine and has many luxury features including likes of electrical folding mirrors, sliding sunroof, automatic climate control, tyre pressure warning system, and a fire extinguisher. The SL 350 is powered by a 3.5 litre V6 engine.
Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Peter Honegg said “the company had started assembling the engines and transmissions of C and E Class luxury sedans at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra to escape the higher 30 per cent customs duty following the new norms on completely knocked down (CKD) units in the 2011-12 budget, complying with the 10 per cent customs duty norm” reported Hindu.
