Two rare 720bhp CLK GTR supercars were sold at auction in London last month. Only 26 of these outrageous looking machines, 20 coupes and 6 roadsters which are derived from a GT1 race car, were made in the late 1990′s.
The two cars, one coupe and one roadster, were both described as new, unregistered and with delivery miles only, and they are believed to have been owned by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei.
These cars were custom built and are the only right-hand drive versions of the cars. The CLK GTR was only modified slightly from the race car, and is powered by an Ilmor modified 720bhp 6.9-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine with dual overhead camshafts. It had 572lb of torque and a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds.
It also has a six-speed sequential manual gearbox with paddle shift control, independent front and rear suspension with double wishbones, pushrod-actuated coil springs and shock absorbers, and four -wheel ventilated, anti-lock carbon-fibre brake discs.
They were sold by TM Auctions’ Automobiles of London on 28th October for over £1 million although they had an estimated price tag of £390,000 for the coupe and £500,000 for the roadster.
